I am working with Microsoft Visual Studio.Net 2003 at home. I need to create a Visual C# project using the template ASP.NET web application. I do not know what to state in the location.

I understand that it should be a URL but what exactly should it be?
Can a geocities or a free web hosting website do?
If so, how do I do it?
oh dear … i am having lots of questions over my head.
i figured out that google provides project hosting but how do i access it? what do i type in the location?
must i create a physical folder on my pc?

If you want to host the application on the same machine, it should be http://localhost/<Virtual Directory>. You can also use http://127.0.0.1/<Virtual Directory>

If you want to host on a machine within your local area network, you can use the name of the machine or the ip address of the machine. Type ipconfig from commadline to get the ip address of any machine.

<Virtual Directory> is the folder you creat for your application.

If you want to host it somewhere else, you need to FTP the files to the server then you can use the website's name.

I did not clearly understand your question. But I hope this helps.

obviously free domains are impossible, but im thinking of a free subdomain hosting, where i upload through ftp.

I would recommend shared hosting in most cases, such as http://www.one.com/ since shared hosting is very reliable, considering the costs.

Registering your own URL (domain name), will cost a small fee, the hosting can be obtained for free, i however won't recommend free hosting solutions.

If you still chose to go with the free website hosts, you should make sure that you are able to upload your own pages through FTP, or through the tool provided by your host. If they don't allow you to do this, you should find another host. See: http://www.smartftp.com/ for a nice FTP program, cunsult the hosting company to get the FTP information, usualley this is listed in their FAQ, or in the confirmation email you recived when signing up.

Note using "WYSIWYG" editors is bad, especially if you havn't got any background in hand-coding, you would want to make sure that tags are used correctly, and that tables isn't used for layout purposes. People often tend to abuse the "WYSIWYG" part, and simply use tables for everything, or forced spaces to force a paticuler layout. I've even seen people use pre tags around everything, just to force a paticuler layout.

If you are serious about websites either for personal or your business, don't go to free web hosting as they are usually not reliable and you may end up losing all your hard work. Free web hosts usually put advertisements on your websites and it could be annoying.

I have made a feedback form on my personal website (made in plain ASP), I want to have the data that the user submits through that feedback form sent to my personal email address and obviously the user should be able to do it without using his email client, is their any free website ( cause this is my personal homepage so I am not willing to pay ) that will allow free SMTP services like I want.
