Video Blogging

November 9th, 2009

Want to have your own TV show? Do you have the need to spread your wisdom to each and every member of the Internet-connected community? Do you just want to stay in touch with friends and family? Now you can. Vlogging, a social, personal/amateur/professional broadcasting opportunity is the latest in online interactive technology with a community. Have a good idea? Put it on the web, talk about yourself and join the revolution.

To get started you must have an idea or, a spark of an idea or, a little bit of curiosity. It doesn’t take much. Produce a few minutes of video by using a digital camera or a still camera with ‘movie’ feature, edit it or don’t and post it online and see what happens is more the rule of thumb. Sure, it can be grandiose with corporate advertising, field reporters, proper credits and a script. Your vlog can also be ‘home-video’ style entertainment of you sitting in your bedroom eating a bowl of cereal. The numbers don’t lie- people want to see the intimate details of other people’s lives. As we get farther and further removed in our own worlds with little reason to leave the laptop, people are coming forward with their lives published and broadcasted for all the world to see.

Here are some suggested resources for videophiles who want to start vlogging:

For tools, training and tutorials: http://Freevlog.org and Node101 are excellent examples. Freevlog/ Blogger is the leading weblog tool on the Internet. Anyone can view your site, whether they are registered or not (unlike MySpace). You are able to completely design your own blog. There are free tutorials and immense amounts of help to assist you in getting started. Freevlog wants you to join the community of vloggers, making it easier for you to get your skills together on the technical side. Recommended: how to hack your own blog and a basic html guide.

Blip.tv for free hosting, support, advertising options and promotion. This site features hundreds of channels to give you an example of what is out there in the Vlogosphere.

Wordpress - Wordpress is a free blog software that has more features than Blogger. It has the ability to label your postings using categories, making it easier for viewers to search around your site. Wordpress has the advantage over Blogger if you are more technically oriented. If you know xthml/css/php, the software can be customized and encourages creativity. Wordpress requires a mySQL database space on a server. Adding links is simpler than on Blogger and published faster.

Feedburner - provides media distribution and gets your media out there in the Vlogosphere to audiences for blogs and RSS feeds. The services Feedburner provides helps bloggers, vloggers and podcasters promote, deliver and profit from the content you upload onto the web.

FireAnt is an application website you can use to list your vlog, attract viewers and subscribe to channels. It unifies content for easy viewing, transforming all formats (Quicktime, Windows Media, Real, Flash, MP3, and more) for hassle-free video watching on your computer.

“Clearly, given easier solutions, consumers will be far more likely to edit their videos,” said Sharpe Partners interactive agency’s CEO Kathy Sharpe. “And those who edit their video are presumably more likely to share it with others, which will expand this market even further.”

A Review of the Plug-In Profit Site

November 4th, 2009

The Plug-In Profit site was dreamt up by home business entrepreneur Stone Evans back in early 2003. After discovering how to make a massive income from home on the internet he decided to make it easier for others to follow in his footsteps and achieve their dreams of being financially successful.

What is the Plug-In Profit Site?

In a nutshell it’s a home based business opportunities website built for free and within 24 hours using the domain name of the customer’s choice and hosted on a Host4Profit server. The site promotes numerous affiliate programs and products including (at the time of writing):

- Web Hosting from Host4Profit
- Digital Products from Clickbank (e.g. E-books)
- A membership to Empowerism
- Advertising from Traffic Swarm
- Products from Strong Future International (SFI)

In addition to a website there is also a 300+ page free branded E-Book called Dotcomology and an auto responder with a pre-written series of letters to follow up with your customers.

How do you make money from a Plug-In Profit Site?

There are two main ways to make money:

(1) When visitors visit your site they may purchase one of the products advertised on your site, or follow an affiliate link to another site and make a purchase or join a program. If this happens you will earn a commission. The majority of products advertised are digital products and many pay out commissions of 50% and over.

(2) If someone else signs up for their own Plug-In Profit site from your site you will make a monthly residual commission from their hosting fees and from their Empowerism membership. At the time of writing this is $30 upfront and at least $17 per month per member thereafter.

How much does it cost?

The site itself is free, but there are still some startup costs and running costs for your site. At the time of writing the costs are:

- Startup - $59.90 (Hosting + Domain Name + Empowerism Membership)
- Monthly Cost - $44.90 (Hosting + Empowerism Membership)

What are the benefits?

There are numerous advantages, but to summarise, these include:

- Reduced Learning curve - your site & auto responder are up and running in 24hrs. Setting up a website could normally take weeks or months for someone without the technical know how.

- No Technical Knowledge Required - it is possible to be successful without having any technical knowledge such as. HTML and PHP. Only basic PC skills are required.

- Training & Support - the site comes with a training plan called “30 days to Success” written by Stone Evans himself. There is also a support helpdesk and a support forum where members share ideas and help each other.
- Residual Income - many of the products and memberships promoted on the site provide a recurring monthly income. This means that one single sale can provide many months of income.

- Customizable Site - The website is 100% customizable. Products can be added and removed, the look of the site can be changed and new pages added.

What are the disadvantages of a Plug-In Profit site?

Despite all the good points there are a few points that some may see as bad points.

- Competitive Niche - the site promotes products to the home business opportunity market. This market is very competitive so may be harder to break into than other niches. It is however one of the biggest markets on the internet.

- Not a “Get Rich Quick Scheme” It is unlikely that you will make money overnight with this opportunity, unless of course you are already an experienced internet marketer. From my own personal experience it took around 4 months to start generating a monthly profit.

- Effort is required - it isn’t possible to have the site built for you then sit back and do nothing. Time and effort is required to promote the site.

Is a Plug-In Profit Site the right choice for everyone?

Finally, is this opportunity the right one for you? The answer to that question really depends on you and your circumstances.

The opportunity is suitable for complete beginners due to the fact that the website comes ready built and with a training plan, but it is also a good program to choose if you are an experienced internet marketer due to the substantial residual commissions.

If you have no interest in the home business opportunity market or don’t have a few hours a week to spare to promote your website then this is certainly not the opportunity for you.

On the other hand, if this market interests you, you have time available to promote your site and you can afford the monthly cost then it certainly is worth pursuing.

Linux Unix Options for Small Businesses

November 1st, 2009

Linux/Unix is an alternate type of system that provides hosting for small businesses and companies that run Linux/Unix applications on their personal computers and laptops. The Linux/Unix-based platform is stable platform in the industry.

The Linux operating system was developed by Linus Torvalds as an alternative to other operating systems. Most of its versions are free of costs. The most popular Linux software is Red Hat and Mandrake.

Linux/Unix was only for professionals until a few years ago but the situation has changed. Many ’small businesses have switched to the Linux/Unix platform because of its open source architecture, meaning that users can structure the system to do what they want it to do.

Web host providers are specializing in Linux/Unix servers and the demand for this type of interface has grown by 40% over the last three years. A Unix-based platform is one of the most reliable operating system that you can ever have. It has a better up time than Microsoft Operating Systems and hosting programs in Linux/Unix are more flexible. You actually can get ore from a Linux/Unix based server than other servers on the market.

Linux/Unix supports a wide variety of application languages, more than any other operating system. The most common applications of such kind include C, C++, Shell, Perl, Tcl, Python, Java and PHP. Databases available for Unix are mSQL and mySQL. The one you choose would depend on what you plan to do on the web and the host that you choose to park your web site.

The Linux/Unix based system comes with its won web development module in some versions of Red Hat Linux that make web site creation easy as 1-2-3. FTP modules are built into the operating system to provide you with an alternative way to load the web site to the Linux/Unix host.

Linux/Unix will become a major force in the future as more small to medium businesses turn towards its hosting platform.

Content Management Systems - a Way of Life

October 29th, 2009

I remember the days when everybody needed to learn HTML to build a small site with a few pics on it, some phrases and an weird-looking background. Php was available, but was rarely used and mostly by ‘professionals’, so it wasn’t really ‘weapon of choice’ for the masses.

How did it start?

Actually it started when the web developers started providing php and database driven websites at a low cost to the market. Soon the competition grew and free limited or trial versions were offered to boost sales. The demand wasn’t very big by today’s standards, but for that time it was huge. Soon enough free systems saw daylight and they grew ever since.

How is it looking now?

The number of content management software (free and comercial) available today is huge and it is growing exponentialy due to the increase of internet usage. Also the development of php and database software offers more and more features and at the same time makes it easier to use.

Why use a CMS?

There are some that say “I want to create my website from scratch so that i’ll be familiar with every aspect of it and i won’t be begging for support when my site has serious issues”. In most cases this is a bad approach to this subject and here’s a few ideas why:

1) If you are not entirely familiar with the programming language you are using it might turn out that the script has lots of bugs , either it is consuming lots of server resources, thus creating a big hosting problem.

2) It will take a lot of time to create the code from scratch

3) The features probably won’t even come close to the complex content managent software already on the market today

The advantages of using a CMS are, on the other side, quite obvious:

1) A group of professionals that use a lot of time to make sure that the software they are creating is usable, bug free and has no security problems

2) Continuous updates to increase the number of features and functionality

3) Support and documentation to help you use it

And the best of all: Easy to use admin tools so that everyone can create a website without even having to dwell with the code.

How’s the future looking?

We are currently just at the starting point of the CMS boom, supported by the competition and huge interest in this domain. In the following years we’ll probably see their number increase daily to fill out the gaps that other software neglect.

The content management systems have created a small revolution in the way websites are created, helping the www gain in quality and interest. Almost every internet-able user can now build his own website, thus making the web a richer place for all of us.

Why These are Two Tools Important for a Web Designing?

October 26th, 2009

Website design software addresses an incredibly huge potential marketplace; tens and tens of millions of people create their own sites and blogs, interactive two-way web sites. Successful site building can be fun and profitable. Let’s take a look at some software that can help you concretize your dreams on the web.

For more details go to: www.magic-mini-site.com Web design software tools fall into two basic categories WYSIWYG and HTML editing.

WYSIWYG stands for “What You See Is What You Get.” With this software you more or less see as you develop it how your web page will look live. In many instances you can drag and drop layout elements into position. Because it is simple and visual, WYSIWYG is popular with novice designers.

WYSIWYG’s “more or less” just isn’t precise enough for advanced websites. Many site designers need a more precise tool. This is where HTML and more sophisticated web languages such as XML come in. The most widely used web scripting language, PHP, lets you mix HTML, PHP and other programming code. While it is said to be easy to learn, you have to be a programmer to apply it for any but the simplest web pages.

Many Internet Service Providers (ISPs) offer free WYSIWYG website design tools for personal websites. Many blogging sites offer similar tools. The occasional ISP provides templates for quickly setting up basic business websites. But if you need e-commerce, multimedia, or other functionality you will probably have to look elsewhere or learn how to roll your own.

We may divide website authoring tools into four major categories. The first group is for professional designers that need database connectivity and e-commerce functionality, such as a virtual storefront. This professional-level software tends to be expensive and hard to learn. Two of the major players are Adobe Dreamweaver 8 and Net Objects Fusion 9.0. In the hands of experts they produce sophisticated websites. These websites have their own domain name. So don’t budget only for the software, you’ll also have to pay for your domain name and for the web hosting.

The second group is pitched to casual enthusiasts, non-profit organizations, and small businesses. For can visit to: www.killer-mini-site.com such software is relatively inexpensive and more user-friendly. But it won’t build as complex websites with interactive features such as storefronts. Like the previous category, this one develops web sites with individual domain names.

The third group of online site-builders consists of simple website and blog creation tools. You usually pay a set-up fee and monthly fees that may include web hosting. Take a look at some of these solutions such as Atomic Shops Homestead and Blogger and see if they meet your needs. The fourth group of web design programs is 100% free. Two interesting programs are NVU 1.0 for website design and Word Press 2.0 for blogs. They may compete well against programs from the third group. But don’t expect them to do what Dreamweaver can do in the hands of a professional. Usually these solutions don’t involve paying for your own domain. Once again, to some extent you get what you pay for.
