If it is just a simple web page, then you can get free web hosting from sites like 110mb.com
If it is a really big site, then you may have to pay for your site. If that is the case, hosting can cost between $10 and $100.

Can I create a desktop application in .net by hosting database in web?

September 28th, 2009

What I want to do is create a desktop application in .net by hosting database in web. I prefer MS Sql Server

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO…… this is how my credit card number gets stolen :-(

Actually, not technically, BUT… you would be exposing your database over the internet, and someone would certainly hack the crap out of it.

What you might consider is creating a "web service" and then supplementing that service with a desktop application that is aware of your web-site. Then, you keep your back-end database more secure.

Setting up advertising on my webpage?

September 26th, 2009

I would like to add advertisements (like Google) on my webpage to help cut costs. Can I usually do that when the webpage is hosted by another company? Or can I only do it if I privately own the server?

You just have to have your site hosted at a place that allows ads. Almost all paid hosts allow them. You do have to apply to Google AdSense and have your site approved though. Good luck!

How can I scan the files on my webpage for virsus?

September 24th, 2009

Someone has added a java script to my index.htm file. How can I scan all the files that reside on my webpage? How do I ensure that this will not happen again? What are things I should expect from my hosting company? Thanks.

How did this happen? Site visitors generally can’t arbitrarily add content to your pages. If your hosting provider has inadequate security, find another hosting provider.
