How can I solve this file hosting issue?

February 28th, 2009

I need a free file hosting website that I can upload images to that won't resize them or have bandwidth limits.
Imageshack isn't working for me, and photobucket resizes large images.
Not good when you need to host a large file as a webpage background.
By large I mean, full screen.
Too small and the image will pixelate.

try box.net
google picasa photo album
resize the background to lesser color depth, lesser quality jpg
and smaller file size.

free web hosting?

February 28th, 2009

iam looking for a free web hosting with PHP enabled and a mail server any ideas thank u

I agree with one of the other posts, a mail server is probably out of the question on a free account. I'd suggest spending $5/ month and going with a small package at a big company. I use http://www.H0STGAT0R.com

Spend a few cents a day…

Which web hosting company should I pick?

February 28th, 2009

Wow, how confusing. I am new at all this. I want to have a website that is up all the time and I can take donations on it. That's it. There are so many options, and so many negative reviews of every company. Which one should I use?

You won't find many people unhappy with IX and if you pay in advance they are $5 a month
http://webhosting.moneysavecenter.com/IX-WEB-HOSTING.html
They'll give you up to $150 ppc free advertising and free domains.
I join in with the ones unhappy about Bluehost, but there are many more bad ones which I won't mention.

What is a Dedicated IP Address ?

February 28th, 2009

A hosting company offers that on its gold packet. I am thinking to go for the silver packet which is cheaper. Am I going to loose much if I don’t have a dedicated IP ?
I am planning to have some joomla sites in that host’s servers.

The only real advantage of a Dedicated IP is that you can install secure certs so if you plan on any https activity, get the Dedicated unit. Be aware that without a dedicated IP if anyone on the server spams and gets the IP blacklisted you will be also.

February 28th, 2009

Just a simple one page one, but that will still look nice?

I found a huge online list of personal web hosting companies. http://www.findwebsitehost.com Finding a local webhosting company might have it’s advantages because you can visit their facility in case something goes wrong.

…and so on.

I follow exactly in apache help but no avail. The server stop with syntax error on my conf with point to VirtualDocumentRoot line. please how do i really do this..pointing the url to /home/*/public_html.

[code]
UseCanonicalName off
Nameserver 192.168.0.99:80
LogFormat "%V %h %l %u %t \"%r\" %s %b" vcommon

<Directory /home>
….
</Directory>

<VirtualHost 192.168.0.99:80>
ServerName *
VirtualDocumentRoot /home/%0/public_html
VirtualScriptAlias /home/%0/public_html/cgi-bin
</VirtualHost>

You HAVE to set the names in the virtual entries.
<VirtualHost 192.168.0.99:80>
ServerName *
VirtualDocumentRoot /home/%0/public_html
VirtualScriptAlias /home/%0/public_html/cgi-bin
</VirtualHost>
Wont work at all

<VirtualHost 192.168.0.99> (you don't need the 80 thats assumed)
ServerName dude (This should be like www.dude.com)
VirtualDocumentRoot /home/dude/public_html
VirtualScriptAlias /home/dude/public_html/cgi-bin
</VirtualHost>

<VirtualHost 192.168.0.99:80>
ServerName bro (this really should be www.bro.com)
VirtualDocumentRoot /home/bro/public_html
VirtualScriptAlias /home/bro/public_html/cgi_bin
</VirtualHost>

Here is a help that might lead you correctly.
http://httpd.apache.org/docs/1.3/vhosts/name-based.html

Just remember EACH HOST has to have an entry for THAT host. You can't automate it with * and %0 unless you have some script that points to the domains and auto fills the config! Also the MAIN server will need a VirtualHost entry as well!
If you want automation you have to use
http://httpd.apache.org/docs/1.3/mod/mod_vhost_alias.html
or mod_rewrite to direct the Virtual to the correct place in the stacks.

Connecting to SQL Express Database without server?

February 28th, 2009

Hi, I wrote a VB.Net desktop application a few years back that connects to a SQL Express Database using windows authentication. I have a potential client that does not have a server on their network, just a bunch of workstations connected through a router. Is it possible to have one of these workstations host the database and the others connect? Will I have to change the authentication from windows? What type of authentication would I use?
What are the possible repercussions of having the workstation used also as a client machine?

Yes you can
SQL Server Express does support SQL Server authentication but it does not install it by default. You need to change it.

How to Generate an Unlimited Supply of Network Marketing Leads

February 26th, 2009

Are you looking for network marketing leads and spending a lot of time meeting up with prospects. Not all prospects are equal. Timing is crucial and plays an important part as to whether a person is receptive to the concept of network marketing.

Therefore, our objective is to be present at the time when he is ready to be open to the concept of network marketing..

At time of writing, not many offline network marketing companies have taken their business online. When I say this, I mean that they do not have internet payment processing facilities. Some companies that have done this have had tremendous success. Other companies seeing the phenomenal growth of start up technological savvy network marketing companies have only now just started hopping on to the internet band wagon.

Coming down to a distributor level, we too can, and should use the internet to grow our business. By using technology, we can generate for ourselves an unlimited supply of network marketing leads.. and use these methods to complement any existing recruitment methods, such as inviting prospects to seminars, tapes, cds, audios etc.

MLM Lead Generation Step #1: Build a Name Squeeze page
Don’t let the name scare you. It’s just a simple form a visitor fills out to learn more of your business. At the top you will have a headline which lets the customer understand what you are offering. This is followed by a sub heading to generate interest. Next follows a couple of bullet points offering benefits and lastly a call to action where you advice the visitor what he needs to do, which in this case is fill out the form on the name squeeze page.

What you will need:

a) WYSIWYG webpage editor or “What You See Is What You Get”. There are many such editors. The ones that I personally use are
http://www.xsitepro.com
http://www.evrsoft.com

If you’re looking to build a simple name squeeze page, Evrsoft has a free version and will be more then sufficient. What you simply need to do is find any existing name squeeze page example, then copy and paste the entire format onto your WYSIWYG editor. Keep the format while changing the words to suit whatever it is you’re offering.

b) An Auto Responder
What this does is to store the information of the people who provided you their names on the name squeeze page. By capturing the names of the people who visited your website and specifically request to seek more information from you, you will have a means to communicate with the people who visited your website. If possible, try to provide a report of some sort and add value to people who give you their personal contact info. This is a form of reciprocation and an exchange of value.

Estimated time I take to do this: 15 to 30 minutes.

MLM Lead Generation Step #2:
You may want to use Blogger to host your name squeeze page on. It’s completely free,

http://www.blogger.com.

All you have to do, is edit the blogger template. However, I do recommend that you use a dedicated hosting service and it’s really not that expensive. Top of the line web hosting costs $19.99 a month and you’ll be amazed the features you can get for this price. These include hosting, free domain name, link tracking, and auto responder. Some companies actually charge separately for all these items. I personally had a webhosting company that charged me $24 per month for just the hosting service alone, an auto responder that charged $19.99 for the service and ad tracking that cost $19.99. Imagine the amount of savings I would have made if I found the right hosting company. Therefore, when locating a hosting company, make sure you have all the above 3, its going to save you money in the long run, not to mention the convenience of having all the tools in 1 place.

MLM Lead Generation Step #3:
Get Traffic to your site. There are many methods one can use. One of my offline favorite methods that has benefited my bottom line greatly is to send offline prospects to my name squeeze page.

A very simple and cheap offline method I like to use is to use Name Cards because this method coincides with my extrovert personality and interest in people (I find people, the human mind and human interaction very fascinating). I print out a stack of name cards which contain a URL to my name squeeze page, and go to a social function with 50 or more people. People will ask my profession, to which I reply, “I provide information”. People are naturally curious and will ask for my name card.

And that’s all I do, just mingling and getting to know people. There are no sales pitches or follow because this is all done by the Auto Responder.

Apply these 3 methods and your network marketing leads, sales and income will surely surge on autopilot.

Web Hosting Scams

February 26th, 2009

Looking for a web host? Well you better be careful on your quest for the best deal … the web hosting scene is full of unscrupulous businesses. Review our 4 tips for avoiding web hosting scams. Here they are in no particular order:

Scarce Customer Service

You’ll want to make sure your webhost provides excellent support. You can test this out by calling in and asking a few questions before you buy. Send them a test question through their email address or online support system as well. Most major webhosting companies offer 24 hour/7 day a week support which is very convenient.

Unlimited Anything

Although it may sound like a fantastic deal, limitless features are not a good sign. No host is going to offer you unlimited space or especially bandwidth for an ultra low price. It just isn’t going to happen. So be wary of the web hosting company that clams you’ll get unlimited features like these.

Although it is possible for a webhost to run a special unlimited offer for a short period of time (to get you to sign up), you can be sure they will either increase your fees later on, or cut down on bandwidth and storage space. The last thing you want is to have your site shut down because you went over your bandwidth quota for the month. This will cost you in customers and frustration. So remember that there will be a finite cap on your space … and that’s a good thing (otherwise they’re not being honest with you).

Web Hosting Contracts

Be wary of the web hosting company that forces you into signing a contract. After all, if you do that, your host really has no incentive to keep you happy and can offer you mediocre services.

Of course many reputable hosts will offer a lower rate if you do pay for a year up front, but it’s best if you try them out for at least a month first. If you are happy with the service, go ahead and sign up for a year if there is a discount.

Elusive Uptime

Uptime is the amount of time a site can expect to be fully functional and online with any particular host. Uptime is usually expressed as a percentage. You want a host that will make sure your site is online nearly all of the time.

But beware, there is no such thing as 100% uptime. Problems will arise, it’s the nature of the internet and servers. 100% uptime really is too good to be true. Although it may not seem like much difference, 99% uptime is more accurate.

If a hosting company doesn’t display their uptime on their site, then you may want to call them and find out what it is. Uptime is a crucial aspect of web hosting. You can find web hosting comparisons at http://top-5-web-hosting-charts.com/

Check out the options before you commit. It is expensive enough to pay for advertising, therefore you need to make sure your site will be up and running or you’re throwing advertising money down the drain.

Avoid web hosting scams by following our tips.
